Hoop Pine - Clear

Hoop Pine is the basis of the best Australian plywoods. It is the only native timber so far successfully established for plantation forestry, extensive plantations having been grown in northern NSW and southern Queensland since as long ago as 1920. Hoop Pine is an easily worked softwood, classed as a non durable timber, pale cream colour with excellent grain, and easily glued and coated.

It is recommended for all boat framing, spars, and trim, and would be our equivalent to North American Douglas Fir, which we call Oregon. Should be readily available, but if buying Hoop Pine, insist on “#1 or #2 Clears” to ensure knot free material.

Because it is harvested as a plantation species, Hoop Pine has the “greenest” credentials of all Australian timbers.
